Meet signups are due no later than 8:00 pm on Sunday prior to the meet. To participate in a meet, each family must have at least 1 parent signed up to volunteer in that meet. Sail does not allow us to add swimmers after this time. Swimmers not signed up by the deadline will NOT be eligible to participate in relays. Each swimmer may swim 3 individual events, and indicate if
they will be available for relays. For
the first three swim meets swimmers will select 2 individual events, and their
coach will advise them what to select for the third. The last two swim meets, swimmers may select all
three of their individual events. If you
are going to be away please let the coaches by Monday at noon.
The coaches have the authority to submit events for you in
your absence, so please notify the coaches of your absence from a swim meet
even if you did not sign up.Parents of
8 and unders, please make sure that your child is comfortable in the strokes
before you sign them up. All event entries are subject to the approval of the
coaching staff.Please be supportive of
the coach’s decisions in this area.It
is important that swimmers, particularly new swimmers, try different events
throughout the season.Every attempt
will be made to put the swimmers in the events they desire, but the coaches
have the final say when putting swimmers in the events that best suit the
swimmers and the team.
Relay teams are formed by the head coach with input from
assistant coaches. A swimmer’s time in the given stroke is the primary basis
for relay selection (assuming the swimmer meets the minimum practice participation
requirement of at least one team practice with Nitro Fish per week, as
participation in practice helps in building a strong team with positive
inter-relationships).The coach may base
“fastest time status” based on “best-ever” times or a swimmers’ most recent
times determined from individual events or from splits during relays.Additionally, consistency, improvement of
times, and overall ATTITUDE and participation will be considered at the coach’s
discretion. The final decision of relay assignments is the authority of the
head coach.During the regular season,
we try to give an opportunity to swim on a relay to every swimmer who wishes to
do so. However, we only field one relay team per age group at Divisionals. These teams are picked on times as well as the
swimmers’ ability to work well in a team. Please understand that this can be a
difficult decision, and we must balance the needs of the team and the
individuals. If you did not sign up for the meet on time, then your child may
not be placed in a relay for that week. If you know that you will be arriving
late or must leave the meet early, please let the coaches know, so your child
is not placed in a relay. Also, please check before you leave a swim meet that
your child is not needed for a relay. It is very disappointing to children to
be told that their relay will not be swimming because one of their teammates
did not show.
Swimmers must participate in at least 2 regular meets to be
eligible to swim in Divisionals. Results will be online at Greenvilleonline.com
in the SAIL section and is usually available by Friday morning. All swimmers
get ribbons that are usually given out the following Monday, at the pool.
